BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection - Field Vegetables
This course was originally designed for those involved in selling, supplying or advising on the use of pesticides. Recently it has been of great interest to farmers and farm managers looking to further their knowledge and understanding of crop agronomy. The main focus is on crop protection in brassicas, potatoes, carrots, lettuce, onions and leeks.
Course Outline
- Recognition and biology of weeds, pests, pathogens and disorders
- Classification and mode of action of pesticides and biological control agents
- Application, transport and storage of pesticides
- Integrated crop protection strategies in the major arable crops field vegetables
Delivery
The course is organised into 4 blocks of three days, plus a three day revision block and two days for the final examination. A pre-course introductory session and in-course tutorials are delivered online via Microsoft Teams. Delivery is through participatory lectures, group exercises and field visits
